VAILO and Illuminate in Adelaide, South Australia

SA lights up with VAILO and Illuminate Adelaide

Illuminate Adelaide is about to light up wintry Adelaide streets, laneways and architecture in July as VAILO supports its creative directors in staging the new and globally significant event.

“VAILO’s partnership with this much-anticipated South Australian festival celebrating innovation, music, art, light and technology, is a natural fit,” VAILO chief executive officer and InDaily 40 Under 40 Entrepreneur of the Year, Aaron Hickmann, says.

“Our company wants to support innovative startups and to foster creative thinking in SA, whether it is in creatively showcasing lighting technology in Illuminate Adelaide or in trialling new prototypes at our state-of-the-art 3D printing hub in Kent Town.”

Illuminate Adelaide co-founders and creative directors Rachael Azzopardi and Lee Cumberlidge have created an enchanting and intriguing program running from Friday, July 16, to Sunday, August 1, with venues stretching from the city of Adelaide to regional SA.

“Here in South Australia, there is so much extraordinary work happening and so many talented and incredible innovators in the areas of future technologies, arts and creative industries,” Azzopardi and Cumberlidge said.

“Illuminate Adelaide, with the support of the State Government, is providing a platform and vital new opportunities bringing these sectors together to showcase a collaborative celebration for all South Australians and visitors to the state.”

Events range from Light Creatures celebrating Adelaide Zoo’s much-loved animals to Van Gogh Alive the Experience and Montreal-based Moment Factory’s immersive light installation experience Light Cycles at the Adelaide Botanic Garden.

It will be the first time Australian audiences experience Canadian digital artist collective Moment Factory’s magic as the group brings a series of video projects, light effects and soundscapes to create a night-time journey through the botanic garden.

Pandemic travel restrictions have meant Moment Factory has been working on transforming the gardens’ famed Moreton Bay figs and Palm House into surreal artworks remotely – with the help of a collaborative team of Adelaide technicians put together by Illuminate Adelaide.

“VAILO knows the importance of working collaboratively to create innovative projects and wants to be a part of this eco-system in SA,” Hickmann says.

“It is an approach aligned with our own. We are committed to working collaboratively with Australian companies to create world-leading products we can export globally, and we are proud to be supporting this new event that celebrates the union between future technology and creative industries.”
