In late 2023, Balnarring Thunder Junior Football Club engaged VAILO to enhance the lighting at its home ground, Balnarring Recreation Reserve, on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. The project had added complexity, as the club needed it completed by early 2024.  

Working alongside electrical installer Bewired, the 12 old metal halide lights were successfully replaced with 12 VAILO Zenith Gen-V LED luminaires. To accommodate the new lighting system as a retrofit on the existing poles, VAILO collaborated with the original pole installer, Ingal EPS, to custom-build a new head frame suitable for the Zenith Gen-V luminaires.  

The old metal halides provided an initial lighting level of approximately 100 lux, but over time had decreased. With the upgrade to VAILO LEDs, the club now enjoys a lighting level of over 100 lux with the added longevity of VAILO technology backed by 10-year warranty. 

 This upgrade will save the football club approximately a quarter of its yearly energy bill.  

From the get-go, VAILO exceeded our expectations in every aspect of the project. As a local company, they offered direct and professional support, promptly answering our questions. This assured us of their ability to meet our tight deadline to the highest standards. With the upgrade, we anticipate saving around 25% on our annual energy bill, providing a substantial financial benefit to the Club.

Our members requested the establishment of a senior women’s club and evening junior football games, and the upgrade has made this possible thanks to consistent, reliable lighting. This will significantly impact the local community. We expect a 45% growth in women’s football participation and a 12% increase in junior involvement. Additionally, the lights have allowed us to turn our Junior Football Club into a vibrant hub on Friday nights where families and friends come together to watch and support their children and grandchildren.

We couldn’t be more pleased with our decision to install VAILO luminaires and highly recommend them to any other sports team looking to upgrade their lighting.
