Sustainability
Our commitment to sustainability
At VAILO, we place paramount importance on our environmental impact. We believe in a zero-emission future and are pursuing carbon neutrality in all aspects of company operations.
We have sustainable practices in place for all our products and seek sustainable and local products and services in all business areas wherever possible.
Made from recyclable materials, LEDs use up to 75% less energy, emit 90% less CO2 emissions and last 25 times longer than any other lighting – reducing energy and maintenance costs, increasing efficiency, and reducing landfill (energy.gov.au).
As a manufacturer of lighting, we have rigorous quality control systems and standards for our suppliers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality products and adhering to our Modern Slavery Policy. We adhere to this same level of standards for our digital display suppliers.
Our emphasis on quality ensures we sell a reliable, energy-efficient product that lasts, with our commitment to this backed by warranty.
Zenith Gen-V PC Amber
In 2024, VAILO won the Sustainability and Environmental category award for its Zenith Gen-V PC Amber at the 2024 SA & NT iAwards run by the AIIA.
Unlike traditional white or blue lights, which can disrupt natural behaviours of nocturnal animals and heavily attract insects, the Zenith Gen-V PC Amber utilises PC Amber-coloured LED lights. This specific spectrum minimises interference with wildlife activities while still providing sufficient illumination for human needs, making it an environmentally friendly lighting option for wildlife-sensitive areas.
Our commitment to reducing landfill
As technological advancements rapidly increase, Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is becoming one of the world’s fastest-growing waste streams (Göl, Ö., Heidenreich, C. and Nafalski, A., 2000), and VAILO is committed to minimising landfill from all our products.
LED luminaires and digital displays contribute to waste reduction by minimising the turnover of replacement lights and physical signage.
VAILO use zero plastic packaging for our luminaires, and where possible, we collaborate with our suppliers to minimise plastic waste in their packaging.
Upon the end of the operational lifespan of our LED luminaires and digital displays, VAILO is committed to facilitating the recycling and refurbishing of essential materials, such as metals and plastics.
100% solar run HQ and manufacturing facility
Our HQ and manufacturing facility is run off 100% solar energy, reducing our carbon footprint and dependence on non-renewable energy sources. This is achieved with our own solar and purchasing green power when required.
Tesla fleet
Tesla believes the faster the world stops relying on fossil fuels and moves towards a zero-emission future, the better – and so do we. We have a growing Tesla fleet charged at our HQ with solar power.
